X-files inconsistency?

I was rewatching the Pilot of X-files and noticed that when Mulder tells Scully of his sister's adbduction, he says she was taken "out of her bed". Now in later episodes we see his memory of the abduction, and he and Samantha were in the living room together when she was abducted. Intentional or unintentional inconsistency, what do we think? I could read it as Mulder being sensitive about the fact that he witnessed it and not ready to let Scully in, except he tells her a moment later he remembers being frozen and a presence in the room....
