How do you remove the smell of cat urine from furniture?

My husband just bought a used couch from furniture company for $500 but the thing smells like cat pee. I have tried a pet odor neutralizer but it didn't even help and I can't pinpoint the source of the smell. It seems to be all along the top, where your head is. Please tell me we did not just waste $500. Help!
